Check your course before buying

Crane Course supports selected courses across the contiguous United States. Coverage does not include every course, and mapping may differ from conditions on the ground.

Search the current supported-course list before purchasing.

iPhone and Apple Watch

Requires iOS 17 or later on iPhone. The optional Apple Watch companion requires watchOS 10 or later and a paired iPhone. Your App Store purchase includes both Apple apps.

  1. On iPhone, search for a supported course and download it while online. No course is preinstalled.
  2. Select the downloaded course, choose one of its available tees, and start your round.
  3. If using Apple Watch, open Crane Course on the paired Watch and confirm it has received the course and tee before playing.
  4. Allow location access for live yardages. Downloaded maps, scores and GPS yardages work offline; fresh wind estimates need internet.

Wind estimates come from Apple Weather. In-app Data sources provides the weather attribution and source link.

Android and Wear OS

Requires Android 11 or later on your phone. The optional Wear OS companion requires Wear OS 3 or later and a compatible paired Android phone.

  1. Install Crane Course on your Android phone and, if using one, your paired Wear OS watch. Testers should use their invitation instructions for access.
  2. On the phone, search for a supported course and download it while online. Choose one of that course’s available tees and start your round.
  3. Open Crane Course on the paired watch and confirm it has received the course and tee. Start and resume rounds from the phone.
  4. Allow location access for live yardages. The Round in progress notification indicates that round GPS is active. Downloaded phone maps, scores and GPS yardages work offline; new downloads and fresh wind forecasts need internet.

Wind forecasts come from the National Weather Service. City search uses a built-in U.S. place list; if a resort or neighborhood is not found, try a nearby town. An internet connection is still needed to load the supported-course list.

Common questions

Does one purchase cover Apple and Android?

The App Store and Google Play are separate purchases. An App Store purchase includes the iPhone and Apple Watch apps; it does not unlock the Android apps. Each watch companion works with its matching phone platform.

How do I return to a round?

On your phone, use Round in progress → Return to round for current play. Older unfinished rounds are in Round History. On your watch, Home offers Return to round for the active round. Start or resume saved rounds on the phone. Closing the phone app does not end the watch round; use End round when finished.

How does GPS work when the screen is off?

An open round can keep GPS active through phone locks and wrist lowers. On Android and Wear OS, an ongoing round notification indicates location use. To finish, choose End round, then Save to round history or End without saving. Finishing on either device also ends active play on its paired companion when it syncs. Returning to course selection stops GPS on the phone; finish the round to end play on both devices. Location use can affect battery life.

Why are yardages blank?

Playable yardages require a fresh, sufficiently accurate GPS fix near the selected course. Away from the course, you can explore an off-course map preview. Check location permissions in device Settings, move outdoors and allow time for a new GPS fix. The watch uses its own GPS. Old or inaccurate fixes are hidden.

Why can’t I download a course?

Only courses on the supported-course list are available. Check your course before buying. For a listed course, check your connection and retry if an imagery service is temporarily unavailable.

What do the green distances and wind arrow mean?

Front, center and back are straight-line distances to mapped green positions. Center is not a live pin location. Wind is an estimate for the course area: Apple Weather on iPhone and Apple Watch, and National Weather Service forecasts on Android and Wear OS. The arrow shows where wind is blowing relative to the hole’s tee-to-green orientation, not the direction you are facing. Check local conditions and course signage.

How do I fix the wrong hole or synchronize my watch?

Use previous/next controls and manual progression when needed. Hole and score changes sync between your paired phone and watch when connected. If they disagree, open both apps nearby, start or return to the round on the phone, and check that the watch has received the course and tee before playing.

Where are scores and downloaded courses stored?

They are stored on your devices. Round information synchronizes between your paired phone and watch. No Crane Course account is required. Removing a downloaded course does not remove saved scorecards. Deleting the app can erase its local data; system backups and transfers may keep copies. See the privacy policy’s deletion options.
