Crane Course is developed by Eric Crane. This policy explains how the app and this support website handle information. Contact cranecourseapp@outlook.com with privacy questions or requests.
No account, advertising or tracking
You do not need a Crane Course account. The app includes no advertising or third-party analytics SDKs, does not request an advertising identifier, and does not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising. The app sends no name, email address or account identifier with course searches. Online providers still receive request information as described below.
Information on your devices
Downloaded courses, aerial images, elevation, selected tees, scores, round history, preferences and cached wind are stored in app-private storage. GPS positions used for yardages, hole progression and nearby-course filtering are processed on the device. Crane Course does not upload your live GPS fixes or a continuous trail of your movements to its course, imagery, elevation or weather services.
Course files, maps and online requests
Both platforms download the supported-course list and selected course files from GitHub Pages. Course-name searches and nearby-course filtering run on your device; those requests do not include your query or nearby-search coordinates. The requested file path can identify the course you selected.
Course files derive from OpenStreetMap, OpenGolfAPI and Geofabrik. Course downloads request USDA NAIP aerial imagery and optional USGS 3DEP elevation using the selected course’s geographic area, not your changing player GPS position. See Course data and licenses for attribution and database access.
On both platforms, the imagery service may use temporary cookies during a course download. The app keeps these cookies in memory only. Downloaded aerial images are saved separately for offline use.
Weather requests describe the selected course’s center, not your live player position. The providers and city-search behavior differ by platform:
iPhone and Apple Watch
City search and weather
City search uses Apple Maps to resolve the city you enter; Apple receives that query. Wind estimates come from Apple WeatherKit using the selected course’s center.
Location and paired-device services
With your permission, location updates may continue during an open round while the screen is off to keep yardages ready. Ending the round stops active play and GPS; finishing on either device also ends play on its paired companion when it syncs. Returning to course selection stops GPS on iPhone.
Round and course information synchronizes between your paired iPhone and Apple Watch using Apple’s paired-device synchronization services. Apple’s device and backup services operate under your device settings and Apple’s privacy policy.
Android and Wear OS
City search and weather
City search uses a list of U.S. communities built into the app, from the U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Geological Survey. Your city-search text is not sent anywhere. Displaying nearby courses still needs an internet connection to download the course catalog; that request does not include the place you entered. Wind forecasts come from the National Weather Service using the course’s center.
Location and paired-device services
With your permission, a foreground location service lets GPS continue during active play when the screen is off. An ongoing round notification indicates this location use. Ending the round stops active play and GPS; finishing on either device also ends play on its paired companion when it syncs. Returning to course selection stops GPS on the phone.
Android and Google Play services also operate location features independently under their own settings and privacy policies, including Google’s Location Accuracy service.
Phone-and-watch synchronization uses Google’s services and may travel over Bluetooth or Google’s cloud relay. Google documents encrypted Bluetooth transport and end-to-end encrypted cloud transfers.
Synchronization and backups
Active round information, scores, hole selection, course information and related settings synchronize between your paired phone and watch. Both platforms use a random device identifier to keep these updates in sync; it is not used for advertising. Crane Course does not operate a server holding your scores or round history.
Apple, Android or your device manufacturer may include eligible app data in backups or device transfers, depending on system settings. Reinstalling the app or restoring a device may restore backed-up data.
Provider request logs
Online services receive network information needed to serve requests, such as your IP address, requested file or geographic area, request parameters, app/client information and timestamps. Requests can reveal a selected course. Provider logs may also include a general region inferred from your IP address. We do not promise that these requests are anonymous, unlinked to a person or device, or immediately deleted. Each provider controls its own operational and security logs and retention.
Provider privacy information: GitHub · Apple · USDA · USGS · National Weather Service. Google provides account data and privacy controls.
Purchases
Apple handles App Store purchases and Google Play handles Android purchases. Crane Course does not collect your card or bank details. Apple may provide developers with sales reports and diagnostics under Apple’s settings and policies.
Google Play provides sales reports and may also provide app-quality diagnostics through Android vitals, including crash and app-not-responding reports from devices whose users have enabled usage and diagnostics sharing. Google manages this reporting under its own settings and policies.
Support correspondence
If you email cranecourseapp@outlook.com, we receive your email address and the content and attachments you choose to send through Outlook. We use this information to answer your request and troubleshoot the app. We retain correspondence as needed to resolve the issue and maintain relevant support records; you can request deletion. Please avoid sending unnecessary sensitive information.
Your choices and deletion
- Change or revoke location access and Precise Location in your device’s Settings. Live yardages need adequate location accuracy.
- Use course-name search on Apple devices if you do not want to send a city-search query to Apple Maps. Android City search runs on your device.
- Remove downloaded courses and delete round history in the app. Removing a course does not remove saved scorecards.
- Deletions must reach the paired device to update its copy. The app retains deletion records to prevent removed rounds from returning during synchronization.
- To remove locally stored app data, delete Crane Course from each device or use Android’s app-storage controls. These actions do not necessarily remove existing system backups or outside providers’ logs; use the relevant provider’s controls or contact details for those copies.
- Email support to request access, correction or deletion of information you have sent us. We will explain what we can delete and any retention that applies to information we hold. We cannot directly erase information held independently by Apple, Google or other service providers; their own policies and request processes apply.

Children and changes
Crane Course is designed for teen and adult golfers and is not directed at children under 13. App-store age ratings describe content suitability. We do not knowingly solicit children’s personal information. Contact us if a child has sent personal information to support so we can address it.
